Fuzzy navel -what a funny name.  The story goes that it first became popular in the 1980's and yep - that's what I remember.   While coming of age at the University of Wisconsin it was not uncommon for the sorority sisters to order it at the Plaza Bar and Grille.  They were sweet and went down smooth.  Made with peach schnapps you could supposedly taste the "fuzz" of the peach (whatever that means). All I can say for certain is that this peach cocktail makes for one helluva cocktail cake.

 What is the difference?

Hi-Proof Ingredients:

Makes 6-12 individual servings 1 Family size package (13.7 oz) of Vanilla Hi-proof Baking Mix 6 TBS of club soda or water 1/4 cup peach schnapps 1/4 cup orange juice 1/4 cup lemonade (you can replace lemonade with more OJ) FOR Two Under the Influence (2 servings) Use 1 TUI size package (4.6 oz) of Vanilla Hi-Proof Baking Mix 2 TBS of club soda or water 2 TBS of peach schnapps 2 TBS of of orange juice a drizzle of concentrated lemon juice


Hi-Proof Directions:

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Combine Vanilla Hi-Proof Baking Mix in a bowl with all the other ingredients. Mix until light and fluffy - at least 2 minutes up to 4 minutes. Pour batter into molds. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until top sponges back. Remove from oven and optionally spray with peach schnapps.

Lo-Proof Ingredients:

Makes 12-24 individual servings 1 18 oz package of yellow cake mix 4 eggs 1/4 cup oil 1 3.5 oz pkg of instant vanilla pudding 1/2 cup peach schnapps 1/4 cup orange juice 1/4 cup lemonade (you can replace the lemonade with more OJ if you desire)


Lo-Proof Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat eggs with a blender. Add all other ingredients. Mix for 4-5 minutes to aerate the batter. Spray molds with non-stick oil or line with baking cups. Bake for 24-27 minutes until top sponges back. NOTE: Smaller molds take less time. Remove from oven and optionally spray with peach schnapps.


A simple peach glaze can be enough to complement this fresh tasting treat. Combine 1 cup powdered sugar with 3 TBSP peach schnapps and drizzle over each sweet. Top with a thinly sliced fresh peach. Alternatively whip together 2 cups of refrigerated whip topping with 2 TBSP of peach schnapps. Chill and add a dollop to each sweet.
